Breitenbachstr. 34–36 in Berlin Reinickendorf is home to a subsidised workspace for the independent arts scene. Covering around 4,400 m², 41 workspaces for long-term use and two cultural spaces/studios that can be booked by the hour, day or week will be rented to artists from Berlin’s independent scene at subsidised rates. Breitenbachstraße thus strengthens the range of spaces available through the workspace programme in northern Berlin.

Last Thursday, 05.03.2026, Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH and Raumbüro Freie Szene hosted an open house at Breitenbachstr. 34.26 from 4 to 7PM. Numerous visitors from the worlds of politics, culture and the general public got to know the newest location of the workspace programme on site, talked to the tenants and gained insights into the artistic practice at the venue. The afternoon was accompanied by artistic contributions from the resident artists, who brought the location to life as a vibrant workspace for the independent scene.

At the same time, the team provided information about the current open calls for professional artists in music and musical theatre, performing arts and dance, and literature. The rental conditions are subsidised and amount to 5 EUR/m² gross including utilities plus a flat-rate electricity charge for long-term workspaces, while the Kultur Räume Studios start at 5 EUR/hour.

The official viewing for applicants for long-term spaces will take place on 17 March 2026, and the application deadline is 23 March 2026.

The location at Breitenbachstr. 34-36 is designed as an interdisciplinary workspace and offers subsidised workspaces for professional artists from the fields of music and musical theatre, performing arts and dance, and literature. The comprehensively renovated former hosiery factory offers 41 workspaces for temporary use, supplemented by storage, production and office space. A special feature of the building are the two Kultur Räume studios, which can be booked flexibly by the hour, day or week and are therefore particularly suitable for compact rehearsal and production phases.

A fact sheet about the building can be found here.

Dirk Förster, Managing Director of Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH:
“If you want to ensure cultural diversity, you also have to secure workspaces: this is a prerequisite for the continuous functioning of artistic production. At Breitenbachstr. 34–36, we are turning a former factory into just such a production site for the independent scene. With our long-term and temporary space offerings, we are creating the flexibility and security that Berlin’s cultural infrastructure urgently needs.‘

Raumbüro Freie Szene:
“The work of Raumbüro is geared towards meeting the real needs of Berlin’s independent scene. Berlin urgently needs spaces for culture and artistic work – and together we can make a difference.”

Stegreif Orchester, on the importance of their workspace at Breitenbachstr. 34-36:
“Space for creativity and music! The rehearsal room gives us the opportunity to experiment freely, improvise and come together in one place over the long term.’

Zafraan Ensemble, on the importance of their workspace at Breitenbachstr. 34-36:
“The subsidised workspace in Reinickendorf is very important to us, as we finally have a place where we can rehearse in peace, leave our things and feel comfortable. It provides a sense of stability at a time when so much in the cultural scene is hanging in the balance.‘

Daniela Zorrozua, on the importance of her workspace at Breitenbachstr. 34-36:
“A room of my own, where one can experiment, is bursting with models, sets and costumes that are necessary for every performance.”
