The planned cuts to the Berlin budget are hitting the cultural sector particularly hard – and Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH (KRB), which supports and manages the Workspace Programme, is even to be completely abolished starting 2025. We are in shock – this news, which we learnt about in the media on Tuesday, comes as a complete surprise to us. This decision not only jeopardises the Workspace Programme as a whole, but also practically ends Kultur Räume Berlin. The feared loss of space and displacement would massively set back the work of the independent scene and make it more difficult for decades to come. We are therefore fighting resolutely to preserve the Workspaces Programme and Kultur Räume Berlin so that you do not lose your spaces and can continue to find them in the future.
We take Joe Chialo, Berlin’s Senator for Culture and Chairman of the KRB Supervisory Board, at his word when he said that the fight will not stop. Kultur Räume Berlin will therefore continue to work for the interests of artists in the independent scene to secure workspaces until further notice. Let’s fight together so that the independent scene in Berlin has a place to work in the future! Contact your MPs, your preferred organisations, sign this petition and make noise on social media. Thank you for your support.
