Kultur Räume Kontingente – Rent subsidised rehearsal rooms by the hour or day.

Are you a professional artist looking for an affordable and centrally located rehearsal space in Berlin?

The “Kultur Räume Kontingente” programme offers artists the opportunity to rent rehearsal rooms in established rehearsal locations with excellent facilities on an hourly or daily basis at discounted rates. At locations that offer “Kultur Räume Kontingente”, you only pay 5 euros per hour.
To participate, you must be a freelance professional artist and resident in Berlin.

What kind of work can I do in the spaces?

The use of rehearsal spaces and studios within the framework of “Kultur Räume Kontingente” requires that you use your booked hours exclusively for professional artistic rehearsals and projects.

Which uses are not permitted under the Kultur Räume Kontingent programme?

  • Workshops, lessons and other commercial events and projects
  • Student projects
  • Non-disciplinary rehearsals
  • Castings
  • Consultancy services
  • Film recordings and photo shoots for commercial advertising purposes
  • Events with an audience

This is how it works

1. Registration

You register once using our online form and at the same time accept the terms of participation (Teilnahmebedingungen). You will then receive an e-mail confirmation of your registration, which is valid until the end of 2024.

Please note:

Registrations for 2024 are possible from 15 December. All participants who have already registered for 2023 will receive information on contract renewal by email.

2. Book rehearsal spaces – via the location

With the confirmation you can reserve rehearsal rooms directly at the participating locations. Please note that you cannot reserve a rehearsal space via Kultur Räume Berlin! Links to the participating locations can be found on this page.

3. Rehearse at reduced prices

As a registered user in the “Kultur Räume Kontingente” programme, you only pay 5 euros per hour directly at the location*. Some locations only offer all-day bookings.

What does “Kultur Räume Kontingente” mean?

The name “Kultur Räume Kontingente” is derived from the term “contingent”, which means that there is a maximum number of permitted trial hours at a reduced price.
For participating artists, the contingent is limited to 40 hours per month, provided that the monthly time contingent of the respective location allows this.
In addition, the specific booking and usage conditions of the participating locations apply.

Fulfilment of the conditions is checked manually by Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH as well as by the participating locations on a regular basis. If you do not (or no longer) fulfil them, you will be notified by email.

*The reduced rental price is set out in a framework rental agreement that you conclude with Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH during the registration process. Costs are only incurred once you have booked a room. The difference will be covered by Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH with funds from the Workspace Programme of the State of Berlin.
