This interdisciplinary cooperation facilitates rapid decision-making processes and guarantees the transparent and constant involvement of the independent art scene.

Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH

Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH is responsible for the implementation of the Workspace Programme of the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe. It bundles and coordinates all processes at Kultur Räume Berlin, from the cooperation of all actors to communication and the allocation of space. In addition, Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH advises on fundamental questions regarding artistic workspaces in Berlin. The GmbH was founded in 2020 as a subsidiary of the public-law Foundation for Cultural Education and Cultural Consulting and is institutionally funded by the State of Berlin.

The Studio Office in the kulturwerk of the bbk berlin is the central contact point for all visual artists living in Berlin. It provides consultation on the search for new studios and supports the maintenance of existing studios. The studio commissioner is the head of the studio office. The office acts independently and is committed to the non-profit purposes of the kulturwerk and its task of securing and expanding the spatial infrastructure for Berlin’s visual artists. The office is also the office of the Studio Advisory Committee, which decides on all awards of publicly funded studios and studio flats.

The Bündnis Freie Szene Berlin e. V. is a federation of member-based associations, societies and other personal associations of the independent scene of contemporary art and culture in Berlin. As Berlin’s state-owned real estate service provider, BIM Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH is responsible for more than 5,000 buildings and properties. GSE Gesellschaft für StadtEntwicklung gemeinnützige GmbH is active in the field of social urban development. The basis of its activities is the initiation of measures that are oriented towards the interests, needs and strengths of demand and target groups and allow them influence and participation. Within the framework of the Workspace Programme of the Berlin Senate for Culture, GSE gGmbH has been managing and acquiring spaces for visual and performing arts and artists, music rehearsal spaces, project spaces and other spaces for the most diverse disciplines of artistic work for over 15 years.

Overall responsibility

Senate Department of Culture in Berlin promotes art and culture within the scope of the jurisdiction of the State of Berlin. The focus is on the promotion of qualitatively outstanding projects by Berlin artists. It is also the task of the cultural administration to enable cultural participation and equal access – regardless of nationality, ethnic origin, gender, religion or ideology, disability, age or sexual identity.

It is composed of four members who are experts in the fields of art and culture, real estate, urban planning and development, interdisciplinary cultural locations, or otherwise related to the work of Kultur Räume Berlin.
